Description
What kind of wine it is
Etna Bianco Contrada Pietra Marina by Giovanni Rosso is a white wine made from Carricante grapes grown on the north side of the Etna, in the area of Castiglione di Sicilia. After a gentle pressing of the whole bunches, the wine ferments at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and ages on the lees with regular bâtonnage, maintaining a tense profile and a distinctly mineral texture.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slopes of Etna, in a contrada characterized by volcanic-fluvial soils with outcrops of sandstone. The altitude helps preserve freshness and aromatic definition, favoring a linear expression of Carricante and a clear saline-mineral imprint.
How it is produced
Production starts with the manual harvesting of the grapes. The whole bunches are gently pressed and the must ferments in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, to maintain clarity and precision. The aging continues with a period on the lees and regular bâtonnage, which offer structure and complexity, remaining true to a steel-focused vinification.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, the wine is elegant and layered, with notes of white peach and melon interwoven with citrus peel and hints of volcanic rock. On the palate it is balanced and vibrant, supported by a clear mineral texture, with hints of chamomile and a long, airy finish reminiscent of wet stone and sweet herbs.
Food Pairings
It pairs harmoniously with scallops in citrus butter, shellfish-based dishes and refined risottos, thanks to the freshness and structure provided by the lees aging. It also matches well with herb-seasoned white meats and aged sheep cheeses, where the saline component helps balance bolder flavors.
When to serve it
It is perfect when you are looking for freshness, precision, and a clear mineral imprint at the table. The lees aging with bâtonnage makes it suitable even for more structured dishes, especially seafood, as well as white meats and cheeses. Serve it chilled and let it rest in the glass for a few minutes to bring out citrus, volcanic rock, chamomile, and sweet herb nuances.
