Description
What kind of wine is it
Etna Rosso Contrada Rampante by Tasca d’Almerita is a red wine produced on Mount Etna from Nerello Mascalese grapes. It shows a structured and complex style, with an elegant and substantial profile. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature, then ageing continues in Slavonian oak barrels. This process delivers balance, depth and a rich range of nuances, perfect for those seeking intensity and character.
Where does it come from
The wine originates at Tenuta Tascante, on the northern slope of Mount Etna, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards are at 740 meters altitude on ancient volcanic soils, with a North-East to South-West exposure. Local conditions promote balanced grape ripening and acidity. The volcanic origins and altitude impart pronounced minerality and vigor to the Nerello Mascalese.
How is it made
After destemming and crushing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at 25–30 °C for about ten days. After malolactic fermentation, ageing continues in Slavonian oak barrels for twelve months, then the wine rests for eight months in bottle to achieve harmony and complexity.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a bright ruby color with garnet highlights. The aromatic profile is refined and deep, with hints of ripe red fruits and light earthy, underbrush notes. On the palate it is rich and savory, with intense but well-integrated tannins, full body, and an enveloping, persistent finish.
Food pairings
This Etna Rosso pairs well with game dishes such as wild boar stew and spiced roasted red meats. Its structure also accompanies aged sheep cheeses and eggplant-based dishes, like pasta alla norma, a staple of Sicilian cuisine that brings out the wine's character.
When to serve
It is ready to drink but can develop further with short ageing.
