Description
What kind of wine is it
Etna Rosso Vigna Vecchia is a mountain red wine produced by Tasca d’Almerita, made from Nerello Mascalese grown on the northern slope of Mount Etna. It displays an elegant and well-defined style, thanks to traditional red vinification and twelve months spent in Slavonian oak barrels. Its mineral note and balance of freshness and soft tannins recall the volcanic origin of the land.
Where it comes from
It originates from Tenuta Tascante, in Contrada Sciaranuova in the municipality of Randazzo, at 730 meters above sea level on volcanic terraces. A climate with significant temperature swings and volcanic soils gives the Nerello Mascalese a mineral profile with a subtle smoky hint. The area boasts a long winemaking tradition and vineyards on steep slopes that enhance the identity of Etna Rosso.
How it is produced
After fermentation, malolactic conversion is fully completed. This is followed by twelve months of aging in Slavonian oak barrels and a brief rest in bottle, allowing the aromas and structure to harmonize.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby red with garnet highlights to the eye. The nose reveals ripe cherry, small red fruits, delicate spices, Mediterranean herbs, and mineral nuances reminiscent of volcanic ash. On the palate, it offers freshness, silky tannins, solid structure, and balanced acidity. The finish is long and persistent, featuring red fruits, undergrowth, and a clear mineral stamp.
Food pairings
Etna Rosso Vigna Vecchia pairs well with roasted red meats, stews, and game dishes. It complements Sicilian beef stew or oven-baked lamb with rosemary and garlic. It also goes well with Sicilian baked pasta and semi-mature cheeses from Etna. Excellent with braised beef, where the wine enhances its mineral character and freshness.
When to serve it
Ready after its bottle-aging period, it is ideal for convivial occasions as well as more contemplative tastings, enjoyable both young and after a few years of aging.
