Description
What type of wine is it?
Felcerosso by La Felce is a red wine produced in Liguria from Sangiovese, Massaretta, Canaiolo, and Merlot grown on the hills of Ortonovo. The winemaking involves spontaneous fermentation and a short maceration on the skins, imparting a fresh and straightforward style with well-integrated tannins and a light structure. Aging in stainless steel preserves aromatic clarity and an easy-drinking nature, making the wine suitable for many occasions.
Where does it come from?
This wine originates in southern Liguria, in the province of La Spezia, where La Felce manages about 6 hectares of vineyards. The estate also cultivates olive trees and saffron within a sustainable agricultural setting.
How is it produced?
The grapes are harvested and processed before about five days of skin contact, aimed at extracting color and tannins without weighing down the structure. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in cement tanks. Aging continues in steel tanks, preserving the wine’s freshness.
Tasting notes
Felcerosso appears a medium-intensity ruby red with lively highlights. The nose reveals scents of rose, cherry, and raspberry, accompanied by light spicy hints and a vegetal undertone typical of Sangiovese-based blends. On the palate, it is fresh and flowing, with a slender body, velvety tannins, and a clean, fruit-forward finish.
Food pairings
Felcerosso pairs easily with charcuterie starters, focaccia, and simple everyday dishes thanks to its freshness and balanced tannins. It goes well with first courses featuring light meat sauces and with roast or grilled white meats. Locally, it complements Lunigiana panigacci with lard and cold cuts, or Ligurian stuffed veal breast, while its acidity supports aromatic dishes and cleanses the palate. Also suitable with medium-aged cheeses.
When to serve
Felcerosso is ideal for many occasions, from substantial aperitifs to daily meals when seeking balance and easy drinking. It is best served slightly chilled; a brief aeration may help bring out its aromatic profile. The wine retains freshness and precision even after some storage time.
