Description
What kind of wine is it
Fiano di Avellino Sacconi from Feudi di San Gregorio is a white wine made exclusively with Fiano grapes, native to Irpinia in the Avellino area. It is a limited edition selection within the Feudi Studi range, created to highlight the most expressive vineyards followed by the winery. Vinification and ageing in steel define a dry and fresh profile, with clear aromas and a measured but continuous persistence.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Irpinia, a mountainous area of inland Campania in the province of Avellino, where Fiano finds one of its most recognizable expressions. In the work of Feudi di San Gregorio, Sacconi arises from a targeted selection among the available vineyards, aiming to offer a coherent interpretation of the territory through a white wine focused on freshness and aromatic definition.
How it is produced
After harvesting, the grapes are pressed and fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature between 18–20 °C. Malolactic fermentation does not take place to maintain a taut character and evident freshness. Ageing follows in steel on fine lees for 8–10 months, with weekly bâtonnage, and then a further rest in bottle for 12–18 months, to harmonize the components without any passage in wood.
Tasting notes
In the glass it appears straw yellow with golden highlights. On the nose, citrus aromas of kumquat are perceived, followed by yellow melon and hints of Mediterranean scrub; nuances of curry and a resinous note are added. The palate is dry and fresh, sustained and linear, with a long finish that echoes citrus and balsamic notes.
Food pairings
Its dryness and freshness make it suitable for seafood dishes with a clear profile. It pairs well with spaghetti with clams and grilled shellfish, where the lingering sip accompanies the succulence and highlights the citrus notes. At the table, it is ideal when aromatic precision and a clean finish are required.
When to serve it
It is a fitting choice when a well-structured but smooth white wine is desired, able to accompany a fish-based meal without weighing it down. Thanks to aging in steel on fine lees and subsequent rest in bottle, it is appreciated for its freshness and persistence, maintaining a clean and well-defined profile over time.
