Description
The Pinotage Heritage 1953 from Bellevue is a wine that symbolizes South African tradition, produced in one of the oldest commercial Pinotage vineyards in the world, planted in 1953. Located in Stellenbosch, Bellevue boasts a long history connected to the Morkel family, and this label pays tribute to the founder's respectful and minimal approach, aimed at enhancing the true expression of the terroir and the identity of the grape variety.
The Pinotage grapes come from a low-yield vineyard located on a southern slope with Cartreff-type soil. After harvesting, the grapes undergo a cold maceration for three days, followed by alcoholic fermentation with three daily aerated pump-overs. At the end of fermentation, the wine is separated from the lees, left to settle, and transferred to French oak barrels, half new and half second fill, where it undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation and ages for 22 months.
On tasting, it stands out for its extraordinary purity and refined balance. The nose reveals notes of rose water intertwined with raspberry, strawberry, maraschino cherry, and pomegranate, accompanied by dark plum and an earthy hint of beetroot. On the palate, it offers a silky texture and a long finish, confirming its elegance and aging potential.
Perfect for accompanying refined dishes of roasted meat or game.
