Description
This Hermitage by Victor Berard is made from Syrah grapes grown on the left bank of the northern Rhône, a terroir characterized by granitic soils and alluvial terraces with pebbles. The Hermitage designation is synonymous with great elegance and complexity, best expressing the typicity of the region and the unique character of the grape variety.
The grapes are hand-picked at perfect ripeness and vinified with traditional maceration in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. The extraction is gentle, with regular pump-overs and délestage in the early stages. After fermentation, the wine undergoes prolonged post-fermentation maceration and malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels. Aging takes place in Burgundy barrels of different ages, which impart depth and finesse.
It presents with an intense red color with violet reflections. On the nose, it reveals elegant and concentrated aromas of ripe black fruits, such as blackberry and blackcurrant, accompanied by notes of licorice. On the palate, it offers a perfect balance between softness and structure, with silky tannins and a harmony of wild fruits, spices, vanilla, and subtle smoky nuances derived from the wood aging.
It pairs perfectly with stewed meats, duck, or grilled beef, while with aging it becomes ideal for dishes based on truffles and aged soft cheeses.
