Description
Octomore 15.1 is a peated single malt from the Bruichladdich distillery, produced on the island of Islay and known for being one of the most peated whiskies in the world. This expression embodies the brand's extreme character, challenging conventions with a combination of aromatic power and surprising elegance. Made from Concerto barley grown in mainland Scotland, it represents the backbone of the Octomore range, offering a benchmark for other expressions in the series.
The process begins with malting to an intensely high level of peat, followed by five years of maturation exclusively in American oak casks: 72% in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and 28% in ex-bourbon casks regenerated through charring. The spirit is produced, aged, and bottled at the Bruichladdich distillery, without chill filtration or added coloring, to preserve the whisky's integrity and expressive strength.
On the nose and palate, it reveals a balance between intense earthy smokiness and softer, enveloping notes of vanilla cream and sweet burnt oak. The peat manifests in a strong yet controlled manner, creating a complex aromatic structure, while on the palate, the creamy sweetness blends with the smoky character, offering an intense yet refined experience.
To be consumed neat after a meal.
