Description
Château d'Issan is one of the oldest wineries in the Medoc and in the entire Bordeaux wine-growing area. After World War II it was purchased by the Cruse family, who still run it today. Before starting to produce excellent wines like today's, the Cruse family first had to restore the vineyards and the cellar, which were in a state of decay. The results began to be seen at the end of the 1990s, when the château began producing some of the excellent wines of the Margaux denomination. In the château's 52 hectares of vineyards, the best vineyards are located right around the main building. Blason d'Issan is the second wine from Château d'Issan, introduced since 1995. It is produced with fruit from the youngest vines and respects the identity of its terroir, offering a tasty fruity roundness that can be appreciated beforehand.
The must is vinified parcel by parcel in steel vats kept at a controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation takes place both in steel vats and in wooden barrels. Subsequently the wine ages in French oak barrels, half of which are new, for approximately 18 months.
In the glass the wine is purple red in color. The nose opens with aromas of plum compote and ripe blackcurrant, to which are added notes of fresh tobacco and the balsamic note of bay leaf. The sip is structured, full-bodied and fresh, with a lively herbaceous final note.
Blason d'Issan pairs perfectly with stewed game and roasted red meats and noble poultry. It is advisable to let the wine decant for at least 3 hours before serving it.
