Description
The Chartreuse de Siran is a wine produced by Château Siran in the prestigious Margaux appellation, from vineyards that stretch over 25 hectares on ancient alluvial soils covered with fine siliceous gravels. The blend is predominantly Merlot, accompanied by Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and a small portion of Cabernet Franc. The vines, with an average age of 37 years and some historical plots dating back to 1920, are cultivated with a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach.
The vinification is based on parcel selection, with fermentations in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks of various capacities. The process involves pump-overs and delastage calibrated according to the batches, maceration at controlled temperature, and an extraction period extending up to three weeks. Malolactic fermentation takes place partly in barrels, adding more complexity and roundness to the wine. The aging lasts for 12 months in French oak barrels with fine grain and medium toast, which enriches the aromatic profile.
Upon tasting, it appears elegant and structured, with aromas of ripe red fruits, floral notes, and light hints of spices and toasted notes. On the palate, it offers a balance between freshness and softness, with silky tannins supporting a persistent and harmonious finish.
It pairs ideally with grilled red meats, flavorful roasts, and aged cheeses.
