Description
What kind of wine is it
Les Grands Charrons by Michel Bouzereau et Fils is a white wine made from Chardonnay grapes originating from Meursault, in the renowned Côte de Beaune. This wine is born from a single, small vineyard characterized by clay-limestone soils which provide the flavour profile with a perfect union of structure and freshness. Fermentation and aging take place in oak barriques for one year, followed by a stay in a tank to preserve the fruit’s clarity. The result is a Burgundian Chardonnay with a full, elegant, and distinctly mineral style, endowed with a solid capacity for aging over time.
Where it comes from
This wine comes to life in the municipality of Meursault, an area known for its remarkable winegrowing vocation. The vineyard is set on a specific formation of clay-limestone soils, where the upper part is dominated by limestone and the lower area presents a more alluvial character. This unique geological variation translates into an enviable balance between lively tension and structural roundness. The vines in this plot were planted between 1951 and 1992 and take deep root in an agricultural context that enhances the precise expression of their origin.
How it is produced
The production process begins with prolonged winemaking for an entire year in oak barriques, using a measured amount of new wood to ensure gradual, controlled evolution. Once this phase is complete, the process continues with aging in tank for two to four months. This technical approach aims to stabilize the wine and sharpen the expression of its mineral component while integrating the structural backbone provided by the wood without masking the varietal finesse of the grape.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine displays a clear and bright golden yellow hue. The bouquet is defined and inviting, opening around aromas of white-fleshed fruit and citrus, enriched by delicate wildflowers and subtle toasted nuances from barrel aging. On the palate, it expresses full dynamism, supported by a solid mineral imprint and vibrant freshness. The sip unfolds consistently and finishes with a persistent finish where varietal purity remains centre stage.
Food pairings
The versatility of this white makes it ideal for pairing with shellfish-based dishes, where its refined flavours envelop the sweetness of the meat. It also pairs successfully with flavourful seafood risottos, balancing the dish’s creaminess with its lively energy. Furthermore, it pairs well with white meats in light sauces, enhanced by vibrant citrus notes and a subtle toasted touch. The ideal pairing rewards well-balanced preparations that allow the wine’s clear aromatic definition to shine.
When to serve it
It proves to be a smart choice for occasions requiring a white wine capable of combining structure and freshness. Its harmony allows it to accompany the entire meal, from starter to main course, while maintaining its distinctive style. Although skilful use of barrels makes it enjoyable even in its early maturity, it has a solid texture that ensures remarkable longevity over time. When poured during a moment of conviviality at the table, it offers an authentic and satisfying interpretation of the Burgundian terroir.
