Description
What kind of wine is it?
Napa Valley Rutherford is a red blend wine produced by Quintessa. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Merlot and Petit Verdot, it offers an elegant and structured profile. The 22 months of aging in new French oak barriques, neutral wood, and terracotta amphorae promote integration between fruit and wood, providing a full body and remarkable aging potential. Careful vinification ensures balance and depth, making the wine suitable for long maturation.
Where does it come from?
This wine is born in the Rutherford subzone, in the heart of Napa Valley, California.
How is it made?
The grapes come from different blocks of the Quintessa estate, and manual harvesting selects the bunches for quality consistency. The must stays in contact with the skins for 22 days, allowing for broad and defined extraction of tannins and aromas. The 22-month aging in new French oak barriques, neutral wood, and terracotta amphorae ensures harmonious development before bottling.
Tasting notes
To the eye, it shows a deep ruby red color, clear and consistent. On the nose, floral notes of violet and lilac emerge, followed by black currant, dark cherry, anise, and bay leaf, with hints of undergrowth. The palate reveals fine and integrated tannins, flavors of dark berries, aromatic herbs, graphite, and a mineral hint of iron. The finish is long, chalky, and enveloping, highlighting the wine's depth.
Food pairings
This wine pairs well with grilled red meats, structured roasts, and umami-rich dishes. Barbecue pork ribs and grilled entrecôte enhance its tannic component and fruity profile. For a regional pairing, bistecca alla fiorentina brings out its savoriness and juiciness. Sautéed porcini mushrooms add an ideal complement and recall forest floor notes.
When to serve
This label is ready to enjoy now, but benefits from further bottle aging. Thanks to its tannic structure and the complexity gained from maturation in wood, it can develop positively over time.
