Description
What kind of wine it is
Pommard Premier Cru Les Poutures by Labouré-Roi is a red wine made from Pinot Noir produced in Burgundy, in the Côte de Beaune. It comes from a Premier Cru vineyard in the commune of Pommard and displays a structured, concentrated style, with silky tannins and a good potential for aging. Winemaking follows the Burgundian tradition in temperature-controlled vats, with cold maceration and fermentation with native yeasts, while aging in barrels, partly new and extended, refines the texture and integrates notes of fruit, wood, and spice.
Where it comes from
This wine comes from the climat Les Poutures, located at the lower part of the Pommard hillside, in the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. The area has soils from ancient alluvial deposits with clay and limestone, well drained by gravel and rocky debris. In some plots, the soil displays a coloration enriched by iron oxides, a distinctive feature of the site. This context provides a Pinot Noir expression with broad structure and concentrated aromas, balancing intensity and precision.
How it's made
The grapes are handpicked and undergo a double selection, then destemmed and crushed before vinification. The cold maceration lasts five or six days and precedes fermentation in temperature-controlled vats with native yeasts. During the overall winemaking process of twenty-two to twenty-five days, daily pump-overs and punch-downs are carried out to manage extraction of color, aroma, and tannin. Aging continues in barriques, with a portion of new oak, for twelve to fifteen months, harmonizing structure, spice, and texture.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a deep black cherry red color. On the nose, it offers rich, concentrated aromas of ripe red and black fruits, accompanied by woody and spicy notes. On the palate, the structure is ample, with silky tannins and a gustatory intensity recalling very ripe fruit, wood, and spices. The finish remains powerful yet balanced, with an overall sense of concentration and longevity.
Pairings
Pairs well with roasted or grilled meats, peppered steaks and ribeyes, in line with its structure and tannic texture. It is also suitable with marinated game and poultry in sauce, where the intensity of ripe fruit and spiced notes continue in the dish. Works well with creamy yet delicate cheeses, able to accompany without overpowering the complexity of Pinot Noir, as well as Burgundian preparations based on braised meat.
When to serve it
It is a red suitable for lunches and dinners where you want a wine with character, designed to accompany meat and cheese dishes. The broad structure, silky tannins, and balance make it enjoyable even after bottle aging, preserving a defined profile of fruit, spice, and wood. Thanks to its aging potential, it can be chosen either for immediate consumption or for cellaring, for those seeking concentration and intensity without losing stylistic coherence and poise.
