Description
What kind of wine is it
Sangiovese Riserva Rocca di Cesena from the 1502 Da Vinci in Romagna line by Leonardo da Vinci is a red wine made from 100% Sangiovese grapes cultivated in Romagna. It shows structure and good complexity, with a mature style and decisive character. Fermentation in temperature-controlled steel and aging for a few months in French oak barrels deliver elegance, supple tannins and prolonged persistence. It suits those looking for a full-bodied and harmonious red.
Where does it come from
The grapes are sourced from vineyards located between Castrocaro Terme, Predappio, Meldola, and Bertinoro in the Romagna hinterland. The temperate continental climate, with the influence of the Adriatic, promotes regular ripening.
How is it produced
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine matures for several months in French oak barrels.
Tasting notes
Visually, it displays a brilliant ruby red color with garnet reflections. The nose reveals ripe woodland fruits, blackberries and cherries, with violet and delicate spices such as vanilla and white pepper. The palate is full and embracing, with polished tannins, good acidity and a persistent finish, showing fruity returns and gentle toasted notes.
Food pairing
This Sangiovese Riserva pairs with grilled red meats, roasted beef or game, and aged hard cheeses. Regionally, it goes well with Riminese-style sliced beef and piadine filled with local cured meats. For those who enjoy international cuisine, it also pairs excellently with roast leg of lamb. The tannic structure supports the succulence of meat and the persistence of the wine.
When to serve it
Rocca di Cesena offers good aging potential thanks to its tannic structure and acidic balance. Serve at the recommended temperature in large glasses. When young, it shows freshness and softness, while with time it develops tertiary notes of leather and undergrowth, enhancing its aromatic complexity.
