Description
What kind of wine it is
Lambardi's Rosso di Montalcino is a red wine obtained exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, cultivated on the north-eastern side of the appellation. It stands out for its bold yet balanced profile, where a well-defined tannic texture meets clean, vibrant fruit. Careful vinification and measured oak aging lend the wine complexity and harmony, keeping the varietal freshness intact without weighing down the palate and offering a style true to its territory of origin.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Canalicchio area, a specific zone in the hilly territory of Montalcino with a north-east exposure. The vineyards are located at 350 meters above sea level and root in tuffaceous clay soils rich in stones. This particular pedoclimatic combination favors regular ripening, supporting the wine’s structure and ensuring a precise aromatic definition that reflects the territorial character of this side of the region.
How it is produced
The production process involves an intense extraction phase, characterized by frequent pump-overs during the initial stages of fermentation to encourage color and substance. This is followed by prolonged maceration with the skins, a crucial step for defining tannic structure. The wine then matures for six months in oak barrels, a short but sufficient period to integrate woody notes and harmonize the taste, thus preserving the centrality of the fruit component.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color with lively purple hues. The bouquet is broad and persistent, dominated by notes of fresh and ripe fruit well integrated with woody nuances from aging. On the palate, it displays a bold structure, supported by present yet velvety tannins, offering a balanced and persistent sip that finishes with good harmony between substance and freshness.
Food pairings
Thanks to its structure and tannic presence, this red pairs ideally with ragù pasta and flavorful soups. It naturally complements main courses based on red meats and semi-aged cheeses, where its savoriness finds the right balance with the food. Regionally, it elevates traditional recipes such as pici with wild boar ragù or ribollita, enhancing the texture of dishes without overpowering their flavors.
When to serve it
This is a wine suited to both everyday meals and more structured lunches, perfect when seeking a characterful yet approachable sip. The six-month aging makes it enjoyable even in its youth and offers an immediate balance between fruit and spice. Ideal to be served in the short to medium term to fully appreciate its freshness and velvety texture, it can pleasantly accompany an entire meal with continuity.
