Description

What kind of wine is it?

Marañones by Bodega Marañones is a red wine made from Garnacha Tinta produced in the Vinos de Madrid appellation. Born from high-altitude plots in the Sierra de Gredos, it stands out for its fresh and elegant style, supported by pleasant sapidity and silky tannins. The winemaking process combines fermentation in steel and truncated oak vats with extended aging on fine lees, while the wine rests in used wood and concrete without filtration. The profile is extremely precise and is characterized by a marked mineral imprint that reflects the nature of the soils.

Where does it come from?

This red comes to life at the Marañones estate in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, within the renowned Sierra de Gredos and the Vinos de Madrid denomination. The vineyards are located at high altitude and are arranged in a charming mosaic of small plots cultivated with Garnacha. The old vines, grown as bush vines, put their roots down in sandy and granitic soils, rich in white, pink, and grey granites. This particular geological composition is essential for providing finesse and a distinctive sense of place.

How is it made?

After a careful manual harvest in crates, the selected bunches are crushed whole. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts and takes place in both truncated French oak vats and steel tanks, accompanied by delicate manual punch-downs. The subsequent maturation phase lasts fifteen months and occurs on fine lees, with a process that splits the wine between used French oak barrels and concrete vats. The wine is then bottled without any filtration to preserve its integrity intact.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it shows a brilliant ruby red color, clear and very luminous. The nose reveals a complex bouquet focused on aromas of cherry and raspberry, well integrated with hints of aromatic herbs and mineral notes reminiscent of granitic rock. The palate is vibrant and fresh, driven by a silky tannic texture and a well-defined sapidity. The long and consistent finish closes the tasting and highlights the finesse typical of the production area.

Food pairings

This red naturally complements dishes based on white meat, as its freshness and elegant tannins respect the most delicate preparations. It is also an excellent match for grilled vegetables, where the wine's aromatic character pairs well with smoky notes, and for semi-aged cheeses. It displays great harmony with the flavors of Spanish regional cuisine and is perfect alongside a tasty cocido madrileño or traditional oven-roasted meats.

When to serve it

It is the ideal choice for convivial occasions when you want to bring balance and elegance to the glass, from informal dinners to carefully structured meals. The aging on lees and lack of filtration ensure remarkable longevity, making it enjoyable when young but also able to evolve over time if cellared. To fully appreciate its authentic granitic identity, it is advisable to let it oxygenate slowly in the glass before serving.
