Description
What kind of wine is it?
La Maison Romane’s Savigny-lès-Beaune is a red made from Pinot Noir in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. It shows an elegant and precise style, with pure fruit, fine tannins and a freshness that enhances drinkability. Whole cluster vinification and ageing in French oak barrels bring out its structure and complexity while maintaining its regional identity. The wine is immediately enjoyable and evolves positively in the bottle.
Where does it come from?
The grapes come from Savigny-lès-Beaune, specifically from the Godeaux area, which faces south and sits above the Premier Cru Les Lavières. The well-ventilated hill encourages steady ripening and limits humidity, keeping the aromatic profile pristine and acidity lively. The region’s typical clay-limestone soils contribute to subtle tannins and a distinct mineral texture. This terroir, historically suited for Pinot Noir, pushes the wine towards finesse.
How is it made?
Harvesting safeguards the balance between acidity and ripeness. Winemaking takes a natural approach, with whole cluster fermentation enhancing aromatic complexity and supporting a linear structure. Ageing in French oak barrels integrates the tannins and harmonises the fruit profile. This path leads to a precise, lingering finish and upholds the Burgundian tradition.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby red, typical of Pinot Noir that values freshness. On the nose, red fruits, rose petals, and delicate spicy notes emerge, with hints of oak well integrated. The palate is smooth, with silky tannins and a balanced structure. The finish is persistent, with mineral sensations and a freshness that invites another sip.
Food pairings
Ideally paired with roasted meats and moderately intense dishes, where the fine tannins highlight succulence. It works beautifully with delicate game such as pheasant or rabbit, and with bloomy-rind cheeses of medium ageing. True to its territory, it accompanies Burgundian dishes featuring poultry and mushrooms, and also excels with roast duck and root vegetable sides.
When to serve
Ideal during the cooler seasons and for important lunches, when seeking elegance. Serve at 15–16 °C in a large glass; the wine needs a few minutes to aerate and release its floral and spicy notes. The fine tannic texture and balanced acidity offer immediate pleasure, while structure and oak ageing support positive evolution over time, with greater aromatic complexity.
