Description
What type of wine is it
The Sforzato di Valtellina "Sfursat Carlo Negri" by Nino Negri is a red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, only in the best vintages and in limited quantities. It originates from the drying of the grapes, a technique that characterizes this denomination and gives the wine concentration and intensity. It is a red crafted for contemplation and for the most demanding occasions at the table.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Valtellina hills, at the foot of the Rhaetian Alps, on the right bank of the Adda River. Harvesting of Nebbiolo begins in the second half of September and continues until the end of the month, with a careful selection of the bunches destined for drying.
How it is made
After the harvest, the grapes are left to dry naturally in crates. They then ferment in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, with a sixteen-day maceration on the skins. After a short rest in the same vessels, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for twenty-four months, a long maturation that builds the aromatic complexity typical of Sforzato.
Tasting notes
It shows an intense garnet color. The nose is ethereal and complex, with scents of clove, cinnamon and pepper, enriched by hints of plum jam. On the palate it is dry, warm and austere, with a pleasantly lingering finish on notes of toasted hazelnuts and licorice.
Food pairing
This Sforzato di Valtellina is perfect with roast meats and game. It pairs just as seamlessly with aged cheeses, where its austere structure and persistence find a natural balance with more intense flavors.
When to serve it
It is a wine suited to important meals and moments of contemplation, thanks to its austere structure and long persistence. It lends itself well to convivial occasions in the colder months, accompanying game dishes or characterful aged cheeses.
