Description
The Pinotage The Owl Post is a red wine produced in South Africa by Neethlingshof winery using Pinotage grapes grown in the Stellenbosch area. Part of the Short Story Collection line, this wine tells the story of the vineyard through a rich and intense expression of one of the country's emblematic grape varieties.
After manual harvesting in mid to late February, the grapes are destemmed and begin fermentation in steel rotofermenters. During fermentation, the must is transferred into Hungarian and French oak barriques to complete the process. After malolactic fermentation and a brief contact with the lees, the wine matures in wood for 15 months.
In appearance, it is deep ruby red. The bouquet is complex, with notes of ripe red apple, blackcurrant, toasted coconut, candied cherry, and sweet spices. On the palate, it is enveloping and savory, with hints of cooked fruit, plums, dark chocolate, tobacco, and burnt wood; it concludes with a velvety finish.
Excellent with game, oxtail, spicy curries, aged cheeses, or vegetarian dishes based on eggplant, grilled mushrooms, and dark leafy vegetables.
