Suvereto DOCG I' Rennero 2012 Gualdo del Re

I'Rennero is a pure Merlot produced by the Tuscan winery Gualdo del Re. It is an iconic wine, not only for the Suvereto winery, in the province of Livorno, but also for the rest of the wine world. The 2012 vintage of I'Rennero was in fact awarded the Best Merlot in Italy by the MondoMerlot competition.

The vineyards dedicated to I'Rennero are located at 100 meters above sea level on a sandy and clayey soil, rich in stone and well ventilated. The organic management of the vineyard ensures that healthy grapes are brought to the cellar in perfect quality conditions. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, the wine ages in barrique for 15 months. Complete the maturation process with a 12 month bottle stop.

The deep and lively ruby red color introduces a bouquet of ripe red fruit in jam, such as blackberry, morello cherry and black currant. The spice of vanilla and nutmeg is the background to some balsamic note which already hints at a complexity yet to be fully developed. The sip is robust, with a soft tannic texture and fine freshness, in the gustatory richness that leads back to tobacco, coffee and cocoa.
