Description
What kind of wine is it?
Taurasi Riserva Scorzagalline by Fonzone is a red wine made from Aglianico grown in the heart of the Taurasi area. It displays a solid structure and a complex profile thanks to meticulous vinification and lengthy aging. Its assertive character, present tannins, and measured elegance offer a sip suited for those seeking personality and the ability to evolve.
Where does it come from?
It originates in Paternopoli, in the province of Avellino. This area, well-suited for viticulture, promises long life in the bottle and a rich and distinctive aromatic profile.
How is it produced?
The winery selects the finest Aglianico grape clusters. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel for 15–20 days with extended maceration on the skins; the wine then matures for four years: 18 months in new French oak barriques and the rest of the aging in barrels. This process preserves the varietal and territorial identity.
Tasting notes
The color is an intense ruby red with garnet highlights. The bouquet is refined and layered, with ripe black fruit, plum, blackberry, dried flowers, and tertiary notes of tobacco, leather, licorice, and sandalwood. On the palate, it is enveloping and persistent, with elegant tannins, balanced acidity, and a long finish with hints of sweet spices and cocoa.
Food pairings
Taurasi Riserva Scorzagalline pairs well with structured first courses, roasts, game, and mature cheeses. Its structure complements flavorful meats and aged cheeses.
When to serve
The structure and long aging allow this wine to be enjoyed after a few years in the cellar, with good aging potential. It is recommended to uncork the bottle a bit before serving. You can drink it after 2–3 years for a more immediate sip, or wait for a more complex evolution.
