Description
What kind of wine it is
Ranger Syrah with a Splash of White by The Wanted is a red wine from Apulia made from Syrah and Viognier grapes. The sequential vinification of the two varieties allows for a balance of structure and aromatic finesse. The result is a full and smooth style, with spicy and fruity notes, enriched by partial ageing in oak barriques. Controlled temperature fermentation and malolactic fermentation round out a production process that enhances its origin and technique.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Apulia, southern Italy, from vineyards located in a Mediterranean environment. The sunny climate encourages grape ripening and helps develop a balanced aromatic profile.
How it is produced
The grapes are hand-harvested at the beginning of September with careful cluster selection. Vinification starts with the Viognier, then the Syrah is added to complete the blend during fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel for about 10 days at a controlled temperature, followed by a period on the skins to increase colour and structure. Malolactic fermentation is induced with lactic bacteria. Part of the wine ages for 12 months in new French and American oak barriques.
Tasting notes
In the glass, the wine displays an intense garnet red colour with good consistency. The nose reveals aromas of black cherry, violet, spices, and smoky notes thanks to time spent in barriques. On the palate, it is full-bodied and smooth, with dense yet refined tannins and a well-sustained, warm texture. The finish is long, with persistent fruit and toasted notes that maintain balance and length.
Food pairings
This red pairs easily with main meat dishes requiring important cooking methods, roasts, and grilled or barbecued preparations, where its structure and smoothness complement succulence and smoky notes. It is also well suited to aged cheeses and flavourful cured meats, thanks to its persistent finish and spicy character. It holds up well to intense flavours and rich sauces.
When to serve
Ranger Syrah with a Splash of White is ideal when you’re looking for a full-bodied, enveloping red—perfect for convivial dinners and flavourful dishes. Recommended serving temperature is 16–18 °C in a large glass, and a short oxygenation or decanting helps integrate the oak notes and highlight the fruit and spice. Thanks to its structure and barrique ageing, it can evolve in the cellar for some years and retains balance and persistence over time.
