Description
What type of wine is it
Lodovico by Tenuta del Nicchio is a red blend made from Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The profile appears structured and complex, with a well-balanced freshness and elegant tannins that offer an enveloping character and a tendency to evolve over time. Maturation in French oak barriques brings balance between power and finesse, making this wine ideal for those who seek depth and harmony in the glass.
Where does it come from
The grapes are grown in the Bibbona area, on the Tuscan coast, on clay and conglomerate soils. These conditions encourage balanced ripening and give the wine pronounced minerality and a solid structure, expressing the character of the land.
How is it produced
The Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot grapes are handpicked and sorted on a vibrating belt. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 28°C. A portion undergoes malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, while the ageing process continues for 16 months in French oak barriques, 80% of which are new wood. This process develops notes of vanilla and spices and stabilizes the tannic texture.
Tasting notes
Intense ruby red in colour with violet highlights. On the nose, ripe black fruits such as blackcurrant emerge, with hints of cedar and vanilla. On the palate, the wine offers full and harmonious structure, integrated tannins and balanced freshness. The finish is long and persistent with mineral hints and subtle spicy notes.
Food pairings
This wine pairs well with light appetizers, pasta with vegetable or seafood sauces, and fried vegetables or fish. Its structure supports flavorful dishes, while the fruity and spicy notes stand out.
When to serve it
The wine is ready to drink immediately, but its tannic structure and balanced acidity also allow it to evolve well over the years, gaining greater complexity and roundness.
