Description
What kind of wine it is
Mediterra Poggio al Tesoro is a Tuscan red wine made mainly from Syrah, with the addition of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Le Sondraie vineyard in Castagneto Carducci. It ferments in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, completes malolactic fermentation, and ages in second-use barriques. The result is a red with a fruity and spicy profile, with a smooth and easy-drinking style designed for the table and for immediate enjoyment.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Le Sondraie vineyard, located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci in Tuscany. Its origin is reflected in a modern and well-defined style, where the fruit component stays central and the spiciness is clearly expressed. The blend of Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon maintains an identity consistent with its terroir.
How it is produced
Harvesting is done only by hand in the first ten days of September, with grape selection on a sorting belt. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for about twelve days at 26–28°C, followed by malolactic fermentation. Ageing continues for eight months in second-use barriques, a choice that supports the wine’s evolution without covering the fruit.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows an intense ruby red color. The nose reveals fruity notes of blackberry, plum, and cherry, enriched by hints of pepper. The palate is rich and complex, yet retains a fluidity that makes it pleasant and smooth to drink, with consistency between fruit and spice even in the finish.
Food pairing
At the table, it pairs easily with meat dishes, cured meats, and medium-aged cheeses. Its structure and spice make it suitable even for full-flavored dishes. When needed, it can also be served slightly chilled alongside more elaborate fish dishes, where the richness of the recipe calls for a well-balanced red.
When to serve it
This is a red meant to be enjoyed right away, when fruit and spice are more immediate and well integrated. It is perfect for everyday gatherings and dinners featuring meat and cured meats, thanks to its smooth drinkability. It can also be served slightly chilled, especially with more structured fish dishes. The combination of stainless steel and second-use barriques ensures regular enjoyment without the need for prolonged waiting.
