Description

Gaba is a red wine from the Valdeorras region in inland Galicia and represents one of the most authentic expressions of the Mencía grape variety, produced by the winery Ladeiras do Xil owned by Telmo Rodríguez. Cultivated in the eastern municipalities of Santa Cruz, As Ermidas, and Larouco, it benefits from the Atlantic influence which enhances its freshness and expressiveness. The unique geographical and climatic context gives this wine a distinctive profile, balanced between intensity and finesse.

The Mencía grapes are grown using traditional viticulture methods, sourced from both their own vineyards and selected suppliers. Harvesting is done manually, with rigorous selection directly in the vineyard. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by an aging period of 12 months in the same containers.

In the glass, it presents a bright ruby color, and the nose offers fragrant notes of fresh red fruits, violets, and light spicy nuances. On the palate, it is fresh, medium-bodied, with elegant tannins and a pleasant minerality reflecting the soil rich in metamorphic slates and clays. The finish is clean and persistent, with a herbal accent that enhances its typicity.

It's an ideal wine to pair with white meat dishes, local cured meats, or medium-aged fresh cheeses.
