Description

The Chilean red wine Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve is produced by the Chilean company Errazuriz on the Don Maximiano estate. The winery was founded in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley, on the northwestern slope of the Andes, less than 30 km from the Pacific Ocean.

The wine is a blend of 5 grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, harvested in mid-March. Fermentation takes place in small steel tanks for a period of 12-30 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and aging, which take place in French oak barrels (72% of which are new) for 22 months.

In the glass it is ruby in color with violet reflections. It is expressed on the nose with aromas of cherries and raspberries, violets and cassis as well as hints of cocoa and cloves. The sip is broad and soft, with ripe tannins and a long persistence.

It goes well with roasted and grilled red meats, game and aged cheeses.
