Description
What kind of wine is it?
Araja by Santadi is a red wine produced in southern Sardinia, made from Carignano and Sangiovese grapes grown in the Sulcis area. It stands out for its structured and straightforward style, typical of the region. Vinification in steel and subsequent aging in cement preserve the varietal characteristics and the local identity, while the sip is balanced with polished tannins.
Where does it come from?
The Araja grapes come from vineyards located in Sulcis. The Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters, and the temperature fluctuations between day and night, develop intense aromas and good acidity. The area boasts a deep-rooted wine tradition that is reflected in the wine's identity.
How is it made?
The grapes are harvested between September and October. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with about ten days of maceration on the skins, followed by an early malolactic fermentation. Maturation in cement tanks, with no wood contact, preserves freshness and enhances the varietal features.
Tasting notes
Araja shows an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it reveals aromas of ripe red fruits and light spices, with notes of Mediterranean herbs. The palate is soft, with a balanced structure, elegant tannins, and well-integrated acidity. The finish recalls fruit and light earthy nuances, with a medium, harmonious persistence.
Food pairings
This red wine pairs well with grilled red meats and semi-mature cheeses such as Sardinian pecorino. It is suitable for traditional regional dishes, for example, charcoal-grilled suckling pig, and enhances land-based cuisine thanks to its structure and aromas. It also balances well with spicy preparations and strong-flavored cheeses.
When to serve
Araja is enjoyable when young for its freshness or after a few years for greater complexity; serving advice can highlight its fruitiness and structure.
