Description
What kind of wine is it
Vosne-Romanée by Joseph Drouhin is a Burgundy red wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir. The style focuses on elegance and definition, with a clear balance between tannins and acidity, and a precise flavor profile. Fermentation takes place in small open vats, and subsequent aging in French oak contributes to a complex profile suitable for aging, with a long-lasting finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Burgundy, specifically in the Côte de Nuits, in the area between Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Echezeaux. The vineyards rest on limestone marl soils, which provide excellent drainage and pronounced minerality—key elements that guide the Pinot Noir expression toward aromatic finesse and structure, with even development and an extended finish.
How it is produced
The harvest is manual and involves meticulous grape selection. After full destemming, fermentation lasts 2–3 weeks in small open vats with native yeasts to preserve the character of the terroir. This is followed by pressing with a vertical press and 14–16 months of aging in French oak barrels, which gradually integrates the tannic component.
Tasting notes
It presents an intense and bright color. The bouquet is complex and precise, with notes of cherry, nutmeg, camphor wood, and fine leather; with aging, a truffle note may emerge. On the palate, the balance between tannins and acidity supports a well-structured body and leads to a powerful and very long finish, with defined aromatic returns.
What to pair it with
It shines with dishes rich in succulence and aroma, such as roast duck and preparations based on wild mushrooms. The balance of tannins and acidity complements the structure of the dish and mirrors the wine’s persistence, keeping each sip defined and continuous.
When to serve it
Ideal when one desires an elegant and well-structured red, perfect for accompanying a meal with regular progression and a very long finish. It can be enjoyed when already expressive or after further bottle aging, when its aromatic evolution may include hints of truffle. Perfect for refined dinners, especially with roasts and mushroom dishes.
