ArPePe
ARPEPE is a family of winegrowers who have devoted themselves with passion to Nebbiolo in Valtellina for over 150 years, in the heart of Valtellina Superiore DOCG. Born in 1860, at the time of Italian Unification, reborn in 1984 and come of age in 2004: these are the milestones of a story that for five generations has had a single goal—to bring out the full potential of Nebbiolo of the Alps.
Valtellina is a valley nestled between the Rhaetian and Orobic Alps, with a unique microclimate. The terraced vineyards on the Rhaetian slope, fully south-facing and tempered by cool northern winds, cling to rocky hillsides that are hard to reach. Here everything is still done by hand, and during harvest the grapes are carried on people’s backs in small baskets along paths that climb among the crags.
ARPEPE owns 13 hectares of vineyards spread across the Sassella, Grumello and Inferno subzones. All work, including plant-protection treatments, is done entirely by hand, with a commitment that can reach 1,500 hours of labor for a single hectare.
At the heart of ARPEPE’s philosophy is "the right waiting time," as taught by father Arturo. In the cellar they use vats, large casks, and steel or concrete tanks—and plenty of patience—to capture in the bottle the grapes’ unique aromatic heritage. Innovation follows this rule too: it doesn’t chase trends, but perfects tradition down to the smallest detail.
Faithful to traditional techniques and far from conventional tastes, ARPEPE brings to life wines that are the purest and most sincere expression of Nebbiolo of the Alps and of Valtellina.
