Barone Montalto
Barone Montalto is a Sicilian winery founded in 2000 in Santa Ninfa, in the province of Trapani, in the heart of the Valle del Belice. From the outset, the project has combined respect for the island's winemaking tradition with research, innovation, and a constant commitment to quality.
The company oversees about 400 hectares of vineyards, partly owned, concentrated mainly in Santa Ninfa and also present in the province of Agrigento, in the area of the Valle dei Templi, and in Noto, in the south-east of Sicily. Even the vineyards not owned are managed according to the 'Montalto quality protocol', which ensures control of the grapes from vineyard to winery.
In the winery, the winemakers follow every stage, from vinification to maturation, with the aim of creating authentic wines with a modern style and a Sicilian spirit, capable of preserving the natural character of each grape variety. Among the most distinctive techniques is the partial drying of the grapes, started on the vine and completed in drying rooms with controlled ventilation before pressing, as in Nero d'Avola Passivento.
The range highlights the island's signature grape varieties, such as Nero d'Avola, Grillo and Catarratto, together with international varieties like Sauvignon and Viognier. Quality is confirmed by important certifications: in 2015 Barone Montalto was among the first Italian wineries to obtain the AA level of the BRC standard, and its wines have received accolades such as the silver medal at AWC Vienna 2016 for Passivento.
Tradition, innovation and a passion for the great Sicilian grape varieties make Barone Montalto a dynamic force in the Valle del Belice and on Sicily's wine scene.
