Caprili
Caprili is a wine estate in Montalcino run by the Bartolommei family, who came to Montalcino from Cinigiano at the beginning of the twentieth century. After years working as sharecroppers, in 1952 the family moved to Podere Caprili, which Alberto Bartolommei and his son Alfo purchased in the mid-1960s: in 1965 the first vineyard was planted, called "Madre". In 1978 the first Brunello di Montalcino was bottled and in 1983 Caprili officially entered the market, with the first Riserva. Today the estate is run by Alfo’s children, Manuele, Paolo and Paola, together with the grandchildren Giacomo and Filippo: a family continuity that is at the heart of Caprili’s identity. The estate covers about 58 hectares on the southwest side of Montalcino, around 25 of which are under vine, mostly Sangiovese Grosso, with small parcels of Vermentino, Moscadello, Trebbiano and Malvasia. The Brunello ages for 36 months in large oak casks, while the Riserva AdAlberto comes from the Vigna Madre and is produced only in the best vintages. Completing the range are Rosso di Montalcino, Ilex Toscana IGT, Vermentino Settimia, Moscadello di Montalcino and Vin Santo Sant’Antimo. Patience, tradition and care for the land, "a passion to pass down", make Caprili an authentic expression of Montalcino’s Sangiovese.
