Del Maguey
Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal is the brand founded in 1995 by Ron Cooper, an internationally renowned artist, who was the first to bring to the United States mezcal labeled with the name of its village of origin. It all began in the early 1990s, when Cooper ventured into the mountains of Oaxaca and discovered mezcal by tasting it where it is made, village after village.
In a time when mezcal was seen as a generic category, Del Maguey chose to tie each bottle to a specific place, letting land, people, and tradition shape its character. Each mezcal is made by individual families of palenqueros in small villages in Oaxaca, such as San Luis del Río, San Baltazar Chichicapam, Santa Catarina Minas, Santo Domingo Albarradas, Santa María Albarradas, Las Milpas, and San Pedro Teozacoalco, and their names appear on the label.
Ancient, orally transmitted processes, combined with distinct microclimates and terroirs, give rise to mezcals with a sweet, rich, smoky profile, made from different agaves, from Espadín to rare, wild varieties such as Tobalá. The distinctive green bottles make the brand instantly recognizable.
The range includes the VIDA Collection, with Vida Clásico and Vida Puebla, also ideal for mixing, the Small Batch mezcals from Espadín, the Rare Agave releases, and the Ancestral & Collectible line. Labels such as Tobalá, Vida Clásico, and Chichicapa have received accolades at the International Spirits Challenge and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Fair compensation for producers, responsibly grown agave, and a living tradition: these are the values with which Del Maguey has, for over thirty years, been bringing the authentic soul of Oaxaca mezcal to the world.
