Dettori
Tenute Dettori is a family-run winery in Sennori, in the province of Sassari, in the heart of the Romangia, on Sardinia’s northern coast. The Dettori family, shepherds and farmers of this land, have tied their history to wine since the nineteenth century; today the estate is led by winegrowers Paolo and Alessandro Dettori, who personally oversee every stage of the work.
The Romangia is considered the historical cradle of Cannonau and Sardinian wine, with over 3,500 years of documented viticulture, soils of three different geological origins, and much of the vineyards still trained as bush vines without irrigation. In the Badde Nigolosu cru, the estate farms 26 hectares of vineyard, surrounded by 20 hectares of Mediterranean maquis, divided into seven clos and one cru, exclusively as dry-farmed bush vines and with ancient indigenous clones of the Romangia: Cannonau (Retagliadu Nieddu), Vermentino, Pascale, Monica and Moscato.
The philosophy is clear: biodynamic farming, BD Farmers–certified, and natural winemaking exclusively in concrete tanks, not chasing market trends but producing the wines the family loves, rooted in local tradition. In 2003 Tenute Dettori took part, at the personal invitation of Luigi Veronelli, in the official birth of the Italian natural wine movement, and today it is a member of Renaissance des Appellations, ViTe and FIVI.
Production comprises ten Romangia IGT wines, ageworthy and elegant, made in limited, numbered quantities: seven clos wines from single vineyards, the two Renosu, everyday wines from multiple vineyards on the valley’s sands, and 18 Settembre. The estate also welcomes guests for visits, tastings, a farm restaurant and a wine shop.
Place, biodynamics and respect for tradition make Tenute Dettori one of the most authentic voices of Cannonau and of Sardinia’s natural wines.
