Nannoni
Nannoni Grappe is an artisanal distillery in the Tuscan Maremma, based in the hamlet of Aratrice in Civitella Paganico, in the province of Grosseto, a few kilometres from Montalcino. Founded in 1973 by Gioacchino Nannoni, who in the 1970s worked closely with pioneering winegrowers in the area, it is housed in an old manor house and in 2023 celebrated fifty years of activity. According to the company, the first Grappa di Brunello originated here.
Today the distillery is led by Master Distiller Priscilla Occhipinti, heir to the work of Gioacchino Nannoni and, as the company states, one of the first female master distillers in Italy. Every batch is overseen with artisanal care: distillation takes place using a discontinuous steam system and a low-rectification copper column, at low temperature, with the heads and tails cut by hand.
The grape pomace is selected at prestigious wineries and distilled fresh, only during the racking period and just hours after delivery; the Brunello pomace within 48 hours of racking. Ageing takes place in over a thousand 225‑litre barriques, for periods ranging from 18 months to 25 years, in warehouses under the supervision of the Customs Agency, which certifies the duration of maturation.
The range includes young and up to 20‑year‑old Grappa di Brunello, grappa from Aleatico, Moscato, Traminer and Vinsanto, the Gente di Maremma line also in organic versions, as well as fruit spirits, a 10‑year‑aged brandy, mead, whisky, gins distilled with a basket still for the botanicals, vermouth and bitters such as Maremmamaro. The distillery also produces the "Grappe di Fattoria" for prestigious wineries and private‑label distillation services.
Among the stated accolades, since 2011 Nannoni Grappe spirits have won numerous gold and double gold medals at international competitions: a result that crowns half a century of passion for Tuscan grappa and for the lands of Montalcino and the Maremma.
