Parusso
Parusso is a family-run winery based in the Bussia area, in Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of the Langhe and Barolo. Its story begins in 1901, when Gaspare Parusso purchased the first vineyard in the Mariondino area, in Castiglione Falletto; in 1925 the family bought Cascina Rovella in Bussia, where the estate and part of the vineyards now stand.
For decades the family alternated vineyards, orchards, wheat fields and livestock, producing wine mainly for themselves. In 1971 Armando Parusso began bottling and presented the first Barolo Parusso label. In 1990 the children Marco, a graduate of the oenological school of Alba, and Tiziana founded the company Parusso Armando di Parusso F.lli, and in 2019 the new generation joined with Giulia and Francesco. Today the estate manages 28 hectares of vineyard between Monforte d'Alba and Castiglione Falletto; in 2016 the Santa Rosalia estate in Alba was added, with the Vegliamonte project.
Nebbiolo finds expression in the historic crus Bussia, on the ridge that descends from Monforte towards Castiglione Falletto, on sandy, marly and silty soils; Mosconi, in Monforte d'Alba, on white marls and tuff; and Mariondino, in Castiglione Falletto, on marls and sandstones with veins of sand. In the vineyard Parusso practices micro-zoning of the soils with tailored work, natural cover cropping, the use of humus and microorganisms to enhance soil vitality, and a manual, late harvest decided by tasting the grapes to assess tannin ripeness.
The range includes Barolo Bussia, Mosconi, Mariondino and the Bussia Riservas, alongside Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba Superiore and Ornati, Dolcetto d'Alba Piani Noce, Langhe Sauvignon Rovella, Langhe Bianco and Metodo Classico sparkling wines, including the 100-month version.
Authenticity, a bond with the land and respect for nature are the values with which the Parusso family has been expressing Barolo from Bussia for generations.
