Vallepicciola
Vallepicciola is a Chianti Classico estate located in Pievasciata, in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena. Its story begins at the end of the 1990s, when the Bolfo family restored the ruins of an ancient convent nestled in the countryside, transforming it into the five-star hotel Le Fontanelle: it was from the monastery’s vineyards that the wine project got underway.
Today the property covers 265 hectares, with 109 hectares of vineyard divided into nine contiguous areas and over 4,000 olive trees. Each vineyard has its own identity: from the galestro of Fontanelle to the rocky, calcareous soils of Lapina, from the clays of Poggione Quercegrosse to the tuff-rich soil of Poggino. Alongside Sangiovese, the undisputed star, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are also grown, the latter in the Boscobruno vineyard facing north-east.
The new winery, designed by architect Margherita Gozzi and completed in 2020, extends over 6,000 square meters and three levels, two of which are underground, with concrete tanks, a barrel cellar, a cask cellar and a vinsantaia. The company adheres to the VIVA program “La Sostenibilità nella Vitivinicoltura in Italia” and practices environmentally conscious farming.
The range includes Chianti Classico, Riserva and the Gran Selezione Lapina, all 100% Sangiovese, the Grandi Cru Migliorè, Vallepicciola Rosso and Vallepicciola Bianco, the varietals Boscobruno, Mordese, Quercegrosse and Parva Domus, the Pievasciata line, Vin Santo del Chianti Classico and extra virgin olive oil.
Vallepicciola combines the tradition of Chianti Classico with a modern and sustainable vision, in the heart of the Sienese hills.
