The Castel Sallegg estate takes its name from the noble house Von Sall who founded it in the distant 16th century, passing ownership of the archduke Ranieri of Austria, to his granddaughter Maria Raineria, to the current owner, Count Von Kuenburg, who developed the wine business that we see today.

It rises a few kilometers from the main square of Caldaro, the characteristic town in the province of Bolzano, and extends its vineyards towards Lake Caldaro where its warm microclimate favors the late ripening of the grapes and the peculiar aromatic varieties that we find in wines such as Pinot Bianco Pratum (Gold Medal for the Decanter World Wine Adwords) and Gewürztraminer. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir find their ideal habitat in the Leisenhof Estate, while fruity and fresh whites are born in the Preyhof vineyards, both belonging to Castel Sallegg.

Since 1892 the South Tyrolean hills of Caldaro have also hosted a particular grape variety, very rare all over the world: Moscato Rosa, which arrived in South Tyrol from the Sicilian possessions of the Prince of Campoformio. A precious treasure for the company, so much so that it is considered one of the best wines of the Kuenburg Counts, together with Moscato Giallo and other fine labels, divided into four lines: Premium, Riserva, Red Selection and White Selection.
