Apulian wines are gaining more and more popularity also internationally. This is mainly due to the increase in quality that has been observed in recent years in the production of red and rosé wines made from Primitivo and Negroamaro grapes, the two red grape varieties that represent Apulian oenology in the world. In the last 20 years there has been a quality revolution in the wines of Apulia, which for decades was called 'the cellar of Europe', when the quantity of wine produced was at the expense of quality.

Among the sunniest regions in Italy, Apulia enjoys a particularly favourable climate that is strongly influenced by the beneficial influence of the sea, which gives the wines freshness, structure and balance. Today, Apulia has 4 DOCGs.

Primitivo is the main grape variety that finds its highest expression in the region of Manduria. Other indigenous vines of the Apulia region are Susumaniello, Malvasia Nera di Lecce and Nero di Troia. Apulian red wines are best enjoyed with dishes such as roast lamb, pasta with sausage or with the traditional Bombette.

Absolutely not to be underestimated are the excellent Apulian rosé wines, mainly produced from Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes, which are pleasantly fresh and drinkable. They go very well with fish soup or cod with baked potatoes and olives.

Although the most representative wines of the region are the reds and rosés, we should not forget some interesting white wines made from indigenous grapes such as Verdeca or Bombino bianco, which are an ideal pairing with a nice dish of orecchiette pasta with turnip tops, for example.
